During January of 2025, we took the initiative to reach out to the Refugee and Migrant Network of Sutton, London with the idea of organising an embroidery workshop for women in their community.
With the support of my team, we put together the project at Trinity Church in Sutton, creating a warm and welcoming space for women from diverse backgrounds to come together through craft.
I taught basic embroidery techniques, skills I learned from the women of my own culture and have carried with me as a form of grounding and connection. In sharing this practice, I witnessed powerful moments of exchange, women who had endured displacement and hardship shared stories, laughter and silence through each stitch. The act of making became a gentle bridge across cultures, one that honoured resilience, memory, and the quiet power of collective care.
